The above photograph shows the full effect of the first phase of the Lumisphere X24 version festoon lighting system, installed on Brompton Road frontage of the famous Harrods building. It highlights the exceptionally fine architectural features, which, being clad in natural coloured terra cotta, is seen to softly glow in the backlight from the spheres.

Similar effects are obtained on the sides, and the rear of the building.  The installation features approx. 12,500 Lumisphere X24 light units.  Incorporating 8.5w Xenon lamps and clear polycarbonate spheres that are fed from Lumisphere WP24 transformers, discretely positioned on the building.

The Lumisphere festoon cable has been especially produced colour coded, to match the terra cotta, making it unnoticeable both at night and in daylight.

Previous to the Lumisphere installation, the building was, for many years, illuminated by a mains festoon system using 25w mains voltage lamps, with a total load of over 300kWH.  On the assumption of an average use of six hours per day, this would consume 680,000kW per annum.  The Lumisphere system, working at 24v, each light consuming only 8.5w, while giving a similar light effect as the old 25w mains lamps, gives a loading of approx. 106kW. This, consuming approx. 230,000kW per annum, saving some 450,000kW per annum, if used in the frequency shown above.

In addition to the remarkable energy savings, the use use of high quality, long lasting materials in the construction of the Lumisphere components, together with the exceptionally long life expectancy of the Xenon lamps, will give very long maintenance-free periods between lamp changes, compared with the old mains system.

The Lumisphere system was installed by Harrods Engineering Department, and was chosen for being able to meet all of the requirements for the exterior lighting, after extensive research and alternative product trials.
